We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Test with 4+ years of experience to own the mechanical test and qualification system for our spacecraft hardware. This is not a role for running pre-defined procedures — you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling the entire test infrastructure from scratch, and defining what it means for our vehicle to be flight-ready.
This is a deeply hands-on role at the intersection of mechanical systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition, ideal for someone who has built test systems themselves and wants full ownership in a fast-moving startup environment.
What will you be doing?
Own the end-to-end test and qualification pipeline for spacecraft components and vehicles, from requirements definition through execution, data analysis, and certification
Design and build custom mechanical test infrastructure, including fixtures, jigs, stands, and portable test racks integrating sensors, power, and control systems
Define and execute test strategies and plans across a wide range of environments, including load, vibration, shock, deployment, and drop testing
Develop and implement data acquisition and control systems (LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB), and perform data reduction and analysis to drive engineering decisions
Determine instrumentation approaches (strain gauges, load cells, displacement, temperature, etc.) and work cross-functionally to integrate sensors and wiring
Partner closely with design, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure tests are meaningful, traceable to requirements, and representative of real flight conditions
Build the internal test standards, processes, and documentation required to qualify hardware for flight and meet regulatory and certification requirements
Outpost is rewriting the rules of global logistics. Our CarryAll platform launches on commercial rockets, then glides back from orbit to deliver tons of cargo, anywhere on Earth, in under 90 minutes. The same reusable vehicle ferries high‐value products made in microgravity back to customers, opening a new era of just‐in‐time space manufacturing. The company was founded by aerospace innovator Jason Dunn, whose earlier work put the first 3D printers on the International Space Station and proved orbital fiber‐optic production. Backed by $37 million in contracts and awards from the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, NASA, and other mission‐critical customers, Outpost pairs aerospace‐grade hardware with a software‐driven logistics stack to get life‐saving supplies, strategic payloads, and next‐gen materials precisely where they’re needed, fast. Headquartered in Los Angeles, we’re building the infrastructure that lets humanity move anything, anywhere, at the speed of space. Join us.
