Our Team

Our founders Yi Sun and Jonathan Wang met while studying math at Harvard and have been working on ZK since early 2022. Together, they wrote some of the most performant ZK circuits for elliptic curve cryptography and Ethereum data reads before starting Axiom.

Before Axiom, Yi researched probability and machine learning as a professor at UChicago Statistics and did a math PhD at MIT. He was an advisor for Gauntlet and Scroll and worked at an HFT startup from inception to profitable trading. Jonathan published number theory research in top math journals and did a math PhD at UChicago.

About the Role

Building upon Reverse ETL’s ability to use SQL to sync to any SaaS tool, Customer Studio is Hightouch’s second major product that provides a purpose-built no-code suite of features that enables anyone, regardless of their SQL experience, to activate data directly from their warehouse. Despite being a small team (3 engineers, 1 PM, 1 designer), Customer Studio is our fastest growing product and already accounts for nearly half of our revenue, which also gives this role the potential to have significant impact!

We’re looking to add a product-minded backend engineer to the team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable diving deep into backend and distributed systems and think holistically about architecture, scalability, maintainability, and reliability. We also are looking for someone with strong customer and product thinking and who feels comfortable writing and engaging with product specs.

Some of the problems we’ll be working on include:

Data Warehouse Performance: We’re consistently pushing the limits of what data warehouses can handle in terms of speed, performance, and interactivity. We explore optimizations generally (e.g. optimizing queries, storing pre-computed state), as well as investigate warehouse-specific improvements.
Analytics and Experimentation: How can Hightouch help customers build segments and decide what data they want to sync? How can we facilitate experimentation to downstream tools, including tracking the performance of different audiences?
Real-time Audience Syncing: Our users are always interested in faster syncing and fresher data. As warehouses become more real-time and adopt technologies like CDC, we’re excited to explore real-time audience computation and syncing.
Generative AI: We’re continuously working on making the user experience of acting on data more seamless, and are optimistic generative AI can enhance user workflows.

We are looking for talented, intellectually curious, and motivated individuals who are interested in tackling the problems above. This is a senior role, but we focus on impact and potential for growth more than years of experience. The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $240,000 USD per year, which is location independent in accordance with our remote-first policy.

Interview Process

Our interview process focuses on evaluating fit for the most important dimensions of the role: product sense, ability to architect backend and distributed systems, and alignment with Hightouch’s values. **The Role**

This founding engineer role would be our first hire, and we’re in the process of setting up an office in NYC. This role is 100% in-person, and we only plan on hiring people who are so smart/amicable that you’d go into the office on a Sunday just to hangout with them.

We’re looking for somebody who is obsessed with coding and loves hard engineering problems. Aptitude is more important than experience, in our view.

The problem you will be working with us to solve is:

1. Index all of the blogs and newsletters on the Internet with perfect formatting (You would not believe much bad HTML there is out there)
2. Build an article recommendation engine. Of the millions of articles on the Internet, can we show users the best possible thing for them to read at any given moment as soon as they open the app?
3. Scrape, ingest, and organize third-party and meta data to improve those recommendations. Internal backlinks is one obvious example and Google’s core insight — if Paul Graham links to a blog post, it’s probably pretty good. But we’ll also want to leverage external backlinks (e.g. The New York Times) and other useful third-party data (e.g. how many people shared this article on X or Reddit?). And of course our own reading data (e.g. Did readers finish this article? Did they click on it? Did they share it? Did they bookmark it?).

Our backend is written in Node.js but we generally believe that languages can be learned. Again, we believe that aptitude is more important than experience.

Salary Range Details
The compensation range for this position is set between $160,000 and $190,000, reflecting our market analysis and other relevant considerations. However, exceptions may be made for candidates with qualifications that significantly differ from those outlined in the job description.

Manual Workflows Desperate for Automation – When a client calls out, an RBT needs to be informed and payroll adjusted. When a client is late, the time billed to insurance needs to be adjusted, but payroll for the RBT stays the same (in most clinics – not all). There are a lot of these “if, then” conditions and configurations in back office workflows. Existing tools hide these conditions in convoluted settings pages – there must be a better way.

Building Technology for Non-Tech Savvy Audiences - ABA clinics are fueled by paraprofessional Behavior Technicians that are usually not well trained and certainly not tech-savvy. EHRs that take a lifetime to learn only add to the paperwork burden on clinicians.

Understand the customer 'why'. You will join customer calls to understand pain points, conduct live user testing feedback, and collaborate with our CEO Michael to establish a product roadmap for your module.

Brainstorm the product 'what'. You'll identify core requirements, ruthlessly prioritize, and brainstorm solutions with the entire team. You'll maintain your own bug backlog and be your own module's worst critic.
